Paramount may have sacrificed part of its cinematic heritage to gain approval for the merger with Warner. UIP, the distribution arm that releases films by filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan in Europe, is now under pressure. Kenneth Jønsson, sales manager at UIP, praised Nolan's The Odyssey as proof of the importance of quality cinema. Nevertheless, serious questions are arising regarding the future of UIP as a distributor in Europe. Whether the concessions Paramount made are sufficient to protect the European cinema market remains uncertain.
