The study *Survive TwentyFive – Fix TwentySix*, conducted by the Bundesverband Regie in collaboration with the German Film Academy, reveals that 71% of the 487 German directors surveyed will barely be able to make a living from their work in 2025, while more than half earned less than €30,000 gross. Furthermore, 37% are considering leaving the sector entirely, as production numbers have fallen by approximately 28% since 2022 and television and streaming contracts are shrinking structurally. The BVR therefore advocates for higher investment commitments than the 8% proposed under the MedienInvestVG, combined with stronger tax incentives and better copyright protection.
