At the Cannes Next panel AI Meets IP: Voice, Rights and Creative Control, presented by the International Screen Institute at the Marché du Film, experts discussed the legal and ethical implications of AI integration in film production. Margarita Grubina of Respeecher emphasized that voice cloning only takes place with the explicit consent of rights holders, while legal advisor Charlotte Lund Thomsen warned that new EU rules regarding AI transparency and deepfake labeling come into force in August, although many aspects remain legally unresolved. Thomsen and Andrea Elisa Pisu stated that consent, documentation, and contractual clarity must form the basis of any AI workflow, where a demonstrable chain of title becomes essential for financing and international distribution.
